OFFICIAL COURSE DESCRIPTION

Topics include limits, continuity, derivatives of elementary functions, definite and indefinite integrals, techniques of differentiation and integration, and the applications of these concepts for modeling and problem solving.”

MY DESCRIPTION

Enjoying a calculus course is something that not a lot of students are able to do, but I am not part of that group.  Calculus stands among the top of my favorite classes this semester.  As a very logical minded person, who is pretty good at puzzles and the like, I am not very good at remembering formulas, rules, dates, or anything that needs “remembering” instead of “figuring out”.  As such, Calculus is one of the subjects that doesn’t require you to memorize things, but instead teaches you how to figure out things.  Sure, sometimes it’s easier to remember certain things, but there is always a way to figure it out again if you need it.  In other subjects, even some other math courses, there isn’t a known way, if any, to find out information that’s forgotten.  However, in calculus, as long as you have learned how to do something, you don’t need to remember what that something is.

WHAT I DID

There is an assignment due every day that there is class.  During class, there is interactive work, as well as some lectures, but overall, the class is an active learning class.  Every Friday, there is a quiz that compiles what we worked on during the week.
